Assessments

Assessment is observation, record keeping, and ongoing performances test that a teacher uses to gather information about each student’s reading progress. (Reutzel and Cooter) I will assess reading concepts because by assessing reading concepts, I can know the next steps I need to take to help that student and their literacy learning. Assessments also allow me as a teacher to identify strengths and weakness, plan instruction, communicate student progress, and evaluate the effectiveness of my teaching strategies.

In reading there are many different assessment that a teacher has at his or her disposal. Some examples of these assessments that I have used are student interviews, running records, and the QRI. Others might include anecdotal records, and the Dominie.

Here is a summary of my assessment with a student where i used the QRI.
